A few notes from our guests...

Kate,  It’s already been a few weeks since we were there, but I didn’t want more time to go by without thanking you for a great get-a-way place.  Tom and I stayed in number 9, just for a couple of days but we really loved it.  We definitely do want to return, for longer and without going anywhere else!  Hopefully we can do that sometime soon.  Who knows, maybe we’ll be neighbors at some point.  (That’s how much we enjoyed our visit to the Asheville area!)

Thanks again, and have a great winter.  Take care.  –Denise

Dear Kate and Lily,

Thank you for sharing your greetings and news with us. Our family has had the privilege of staying with you on a couple of occasions. The memories we have are some of the best times our family had together.

Thank you too for sharing Hebrews 13:2. From our perspective you have certainly lived up to this verse and we appreciate it.

We have not yet mapped out our summer vacation but hope to visit you again sometime.

Blessing to You,

The VW Family

What a nice site !!!  I hope you are doing well.  We may make a stop to see you in October if we have time on our way to Cincinnati. We promise not to leave with the key. :)

We do love your property. We recommend it to our friends but we are not sure if they have stopped by to see your little " Piece of Heaven".

Oh, go ahead and break my heart! LOL - I LOVED your retreat, your haven, but we had to move out of NC and are trying to deal with existence in AZ. I'd come back to your place in a heartbeat, if I could. my family's time there in August 2006 will go down as one of the best memories of my lifetime. Favorite 2 memories: sitting alone in the midst of the creek, just letting the water flow around me - solitude and peace in the midst of a period of turmoil; watching my 6 and 4-year-olds leap for fireflies in the twilight - pure Heaven for this CA-born girl.

Congrats on your new website - may God richly bless you as you seek to bless others!

MBE - wistfully remembering

We just happened upon this well hidden little secret just outside of Asheville, NC while take a spur of the moment “run away from home” trip. Mom kept the kids and we were just going to try and find a little romantic hideaway for ourselves after being over a year without time away from work and family.

We stopped at the Chamber of Commerce in Asheville and they were nice enough to tell us all about this little hideaway, and even called and found they had just had a cancellation and could give is at least 3 of the 4 nights we were hoping to find.

They had 50 or 60 acres of shear heaven on Earth! On 10 or 15 cabins. All different in size and design. Ours overlooked a beautiful mountain stream where we spent many hours laying in the hammock and just talking like we hadn’t had time to do in such a long time.

There were flowers and bird feeders everywhere. And even though the place was booked, we never felt like we didn’t have our privacy.

Katie, the woman in the office was so sweet and went out of her way to make everything right for us. Dinner reservations with a sunset terrace, great hiking trips and even arrange for us to have a streamside massage.
I can’t say enough good things about it. If I had one thing I would complain about it would have to be we would like to have stayed longer and they just could not fit us in. You can be sure we will go back often. It was just what we needed. 2 of our friends have been since then and they also agreed that it was a wonderful couples retreat, though they plan to go back and take the children. Who knows? We may all just go back as a group. They offer babysitting there so we could still get some adult outings in. By all means, go find this little place!

Thanks for the warm update: We truly look forward to coming back for our third visit during this season, I will forward this to my extensive client data base if you would like, let me know, and see you soon. Your Myrtle Beach Broker

Hello,

I wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our visit with you at your lovely farm and cabins.  The cottage was lovely, and from the moment we walked in, it made me feel comfortable.  Not only that, it was nice and clean, and as I fell asleep I could see a quarter moon shining in the window.  We so much needed that wonderful place to rest.  Thank you again for leaving the door open and trusting us to pay you.  That's how we've always lived in the country, but it is changing here rapidly, and I really hate to see that kind of trust go.  It's always refreshing to see it elsewhere.  Anyway, just wanted to tell you, you made my life easier this weekend, and I really appreciate it.  Thank you, G and A

Dear Mountain Springs,

My husband and I recently celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary over the Thanksgiving Holiday and spent two nights in your Katydid cabin as part of our celebration.

Prior to making our reservations with your establishment we had spent considerable time researching cabins in the Asheville area.  When we decided upon Mountain Springs, we were grateful for the affordable price, the availability of a cabin, and your willingness to accommodate our two-night stay.

Once we arrived at Mountain Springs, our expectations were pleasantly surpassed at every little discovery about your place: the tiny space of our Katydid cabin was just perfect for us, we enjoyed it immensely!  The location and setting is beautiful.  The games and stream with the ducks creates nice diversion and activity.  The extra touch of monogrammed linens is something unnecessary but appreciated!  J  Our list could go on.

Thank you very much for your part in our one-year anniversary celebration.  It has been wonderfully memorable and we appreciated being able to share part of it with you.

Keep up the good work,

Blessings, H

Love it, Kate- had a feeling you were Believers. And if patience were easy to learn, then we'd all have it (I'll let you know as soon as I get some.)

Say hello to the charming beaver family and all the squirrels and especially the hammock - you're living my dream. And I will pray that God will provide you with a handy husband. If I find you one, can I get a free Monday with a paid weekend?   Better yet, I'LL come do the weed eating and take out the trash and clean the BBQs in exchange for the right to pitch a tent on the lower field.

Obviously, your wonderful place meant a lot to me - it's my mental "happy place" when I need to create tranquility in the midst of chaos.

Have a great week

Kate,

We had a wonderful time staying in cabin #13.  And thank you for all the wonderful ideas you gave us while we were there…we did them all!  We will definitely be back!

Thanks again!

HI
Just wanted to write and tell you what a wonderful time we had at your
place I think the Lord knew just what I needed.   We stayed in Duck
Tavern and it was so nice to hear the water, it has such a calming
effect.    We did go to Asheville Friday night like you suggested
and saw/heard the drums and ate at Mayfel's I think it was.
We also ate at Mt Pisgah around lunchtime and the view was
great.    I have told a couple of my friends about the place I would
love to come back again.    We also had a surprise Sunday morning
before we left for church we saw hot air balloons overhead.

The cabins were so nicely decorated as well.
We did have such a wonderful time, you have a such
a beautiful place, we (i) would love to come back, I would
love to live there someplace.   You are very blessed to
have such a beautiful and peaceful place to live.
Thanks again

Hi Kate,
Jeff and I had a wonderful time...yet again.  Thanks so much!  You will definitely see us again in the future.
        Have a wonderful week!  :o)

We arrived at your cabins about 6 pm and were welcomed w/ a warm cozy fire in our Cabin # 11.

Just wanted to say Thank you for a comfortable, clean, pleasant, relaxing  2 night stay at your cabins. As we tried to cram as much as possible in the 2 days we were there, did not get to really enjoy and appreciated the serenity and peace that could be felt at your resort.

Hope to come back again and stay at the cabins and just rest!!!  PS

Dear Kate,

I'm really late sending this to you.  W & I were there a couple of weekends ago & loved the cabin & all the grounds, esp. the stream.  The cabin was so comfortable & so very clean.  We will be back & have already told our friends.  Thank you very much.  I also love the scripture verses & other things that indicate  you are Christians!  Sincerely, SH

Traveling North

By Chrissy Fisher

When we drove up the final hilltop, I knew from the scent of the cool mountain air, that we finally made it to the Mountain Springs Cabins in Candler, North Carolina. I remembered the peace I felt from our visit 4 years earlier. The beauty of the mountains, the scent of the wild flowers, and the bobbling of the rocky creek brought back a sense of serenity. I remember saying, “If this is anything like heaven, count me in!” Everything was just the way I remembered it! The rustic cabin with the covered front porch facing the big valley with mountains in the back ground. The back porch facing the  weeping willow trees and a picnic table and hammock down by the creek. The upstairs loft with two beds for the girls covered with old fashioned quilts and a window air conditioning we didn’t have to run much, even in June! Downstairs with the stone fire place with a deer’s head over it and beautiful, antique furniture. Friendly white and wood ducks that love to eat right out of your hand! The high temperature barely reached 80 degrees and we opened all the cabin windows so the breeze would keep it cool. No need to lock the doors, the country folk up there love the Lord and won’t steal from you. At night it dipped down into the 50’s but we left one window cracked open just enough to have to snuggle up to keep warm and still hear the creek as it slowly rocked us to sleep! If it wasn’t for the cold mountain winters, you couldn’t ever take me away from this place! The only thing that was different was the wood pecker that liked to wake us up every morning at 7:00 a.m. pecking on the side of our cabin!

Late one evening, while swinging on the porch swing and watching our girls play in the valley catching fire flies, I reflected on how much Cayli and Courtney have grown and changed in the past 4 years since we’ve been back to these mountains. Then I realized how much I have spiritually grown and changed too. 4 ears ago, we never even heard of Sunset Bay Chapel or the F.A.I.T.H. Riders. Since then, I learned to cherish my Bible that sat in my dresser for the past 14 years. I love to read God’s Word now and listen to what He is telling me. I not only end my day with a prayer, but I begin my day asking God to give me a purpose for Him each day and give me the strength and wisdom to carry it through. I ask for His will to be done in my life, not mine. I not only silently pray for each and every motorcyclist I see riding on the street, but I’ve learned to pray aloud with my fellow Christian friends. The power of prayer is so real for me now! 4 years ago, I only prayed out of desperation and now, prayer is a part of my daily life. Having a relationship with Jesus is so important to me now! This scripture is one of my favorites, “I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation. The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He will make me as surefooted as a deer and bring me safely over the mountains.” Habakkuk 3:18-19.  I’ve learned that no matter what happens, I’m never alone and that my God will help me! He will make something good out of everything bad that happens! I just have to trust in Him to help me through.

I now know that God has my day all planned for me and that I don’t have to worry anymore. It really feels good to be out of control! 4 years ago, I knew none of this! The only place I ever felt complete peace and serenity was being there at Mountain Springs. Now my peace comes from God’s Word. It comes from fellowship with Christian friends, and from helping others. It comes from being content with who I am and what I have. It comes from knowing that God puts me where He wants me for a reason.

Sitting on that old porch swing, I knew there was a reason we had traveled up north. It wasn’t just for my serenity; God was showing me how far I have traveled up north towards Him! As Paul says, we are made alive by Christ! “Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins. You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so very much, that even while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life. God saved you by his special favor when you believed. “ Ephesians 2:1-4, 8. “When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will give you mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 3:14-16.

So God, thank you for bringing me closer to you! I just wanted to let you know, when I get to heaven, I don’t really need your roads paved with gold. But if you have a cabin by a creek up in your mountains, please save one for me!
